Psychotic Disorders and Treatment

Psychosis is an abnormal condition of the mind characterized by a disconnection from reality. It can have serious outcomes and lead to decrease in functionality. 

 

Symptoms may include:

  • Delusions and hallucinations

  • Abnormalities with speech, thought and behavior that are inappropriate for a given situation

  • Sleep problems, social withdrawal, lack of motivation, and difficulties carrying out daily activities

Psychosis may have different causes, including:

  • Mental illness, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder

  • Postpartum psychosis

  • Trauma

  • Sleep deprivation

  • Medications

  • Medical conditions

  • Drug use

What is the treatment for psychotic disorders?


Online treatment  for psychotic disorders varies from patient to patient, and it often includes the following:

  • Antipsychotic medication. At New Sunrise Mental Health, medication will be prescribed electronically and filled at the pharmacy of your choice, online or near you.

  • Psychotherapy, also known as "talk therapy", ranging from CBT to DBT to a number of other modalities. Dr. Ibarra-Alos will will be able to recommend an online or in-person therapist for your treatment.

  • Social support

It is important to seek treatment as soon as possible, since early online treatment appears to improve outcomes
